Profile

About Bridgeport

Bridgeport is one of the newer communities in Chestermere, the small city on Calgary's eastern edge built around a former irrigation reservoir that now functions as a recreational lake. It sits within a short drive of the lake and of Chestermere's retail on Highway 1A.

Chestermere is a genuinely different proposition from a Calgary suburb. It is a separate municipality with its own council, tax rate, utility rates and school arrangements, and the lake is managed by the city rather than by a residents association. Buyers get a lake-city address at prices generally below comparable Calgary lake communities.

The trade-off is the commute and the servicing. Everything into Calgary runs on Highway 1 or Glenmore Trail, both of which back up at peak, and Chestermere has worked through significant water and utility servicing decisions over the past decade. Check the current utility rate structure before you assume Calgary-equivalent costs.

Commute note: Approximate drive to downtown Calgary via Highway 1 and 17 Avenue SE or Glenmore Trail. Test it at your own commute time. Off-peak roughly 25 minutes, peak roughly 35 minutes.

FAQ

Questions about Bridgeport

Home prices in Chestermere have generally sat below comparable Calgary lake communities, which is the main reason buyers look there. The comparison is not only the purchase price: Chestermere sets its own property tax rate and utility rates, and those have changed materially over the past decade. Compare the total monthly cost, not the list price.
